At Blossom Rural, we use a parent coaching approach across both Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology services.
This means we work alongside your family, sharing practical strategies you can use in everyday routines to support your child’s development.
You are your child’s most important teacher. Our role is to guide, coach, and support you with tools and strategies that fit into real life, not just therapy sessions.
Research consistently shows that children make the most progress when skills are practised at home, within their natural environments and daily routines. That’s why parent coaching is such a powerful and effective approach.
What does parent coaching look like?
Every family is different, so sessions are always tailored to your child’s needs, your goals, and what works best for your routine.
Telehealth makes parent coaching flexible and accessible, especially for rural and remote families. It allows you to access support from the comfort of your own home, without the need to travel!
What do Telehealth Sessions include?
- Reviewing short videos of your child during everyday activities and discussing what’s going well and what we can build on
- Practising strategies together in real time (for example during play, meals, or routines)
- Problem-solving real-life situations and adjusting strategies as needed
- Learning about child development and understanding the “why” behind your child’s skills and challenges
- Setting small, achievable goals that fit naturally into your family’s day
Why do we use this approach?
Parent coaching helps build confidence and consistency, so strategies don’t stop when the session ends. By working together, we can:
- Support progress in everyday environments
- Build your confidence as a parent or caregiver
- Make therapy practical, achievable, and sustainable
- Ensure skills are generalised beyond sessions into real life
What can it support?
Parent coaching can be used across a wide range of goals, including:
Early language development
- Late talkers
- Early communication and play skills
Occupational Therapy goals
- Toileting
- Dressing and independence skills
- Emotional regulation
- Play and sensory development
