Language
A Speech Pathologist can assist children with their expression and comprehension.
There are two aspects of language that children develop:
Expressive Language: Your child’s ability to express their needs, wants and thoughts. This can be via spoken language or written language. As your child develops, their expressive language will grow, allowing them to interact and communicate with others.
Receptive Language: Your child’s ability to understand and comprehend language to follow instructions and correctly answer questions.
So how can Blossom Rural support your child in these areas?
A comprehensive, standardised assessment will be administered to your child. This will identify your child’s language strengths and areas which could be targeted during therapy sessions.
Some areas which could be targeted in language-based therapy sessions for school-aged children include:
Understanding and comprehending language from pictures and spoken sentences
Constructing spoken sentences with correct structure
Storytelling
Being able to remember sentences to assist with note-taking in the classroom, following instructions and learning new vocabulary
Following instructions with increasing complexity
Understanding the meaning of words
Understanding the function of objects
